What is Geopark?

A Geopark is a territory where outstanding geological phenomena and geomorphological landforms and landscapes can be found. Indeed, a Geopark is an area with abundant Geoheritage sites which have outstanding significance or rarity and uniqueness from a scientific and educational point of view as well as having an aesthetic value. Geoparks play an important role in the protection of natural and geological heritage, the development of geotourism and empower local economic within its surrounding area.

Global Geoparks are an official program of UNESCO, similar to World Heritage Sites. Until May 2023, there was 195 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 48 countries.
