Shalali-Dara geosite

Shalali-Dara geosite

In this geosite, several geological structures related to sedimentary rocks can be found. In the geosite entrance, sedimentary layers and their various colors and rock fall on the steep slope are vividly recognizable.

Furthermore, Tafoni or honeycomb erosion forms are also visible in sedimentary layers. During a walk in Shalali Darreh, sequences of sandstone beds can be seen next to red conglomerate rocks. The conglomerate is a type of sedimentary rock that has small and large parts in its component, which are joined together by a cement-like texture. These rocks often form in the river's bed and changes in the intensity and energy of river flows will make the conglomerate particles into different shapes (small and large). Usually due to the water flow, angled (rough) pieces are often not seen in this type of stone. The presence of Iron Oxide in their natural cement composition created a reddish color in the geosite rocks.
