Choopan geosite
Choopan Chapel (Nakhirchi) had been a praying place. It lies about 6 km west of Jolfa City, and is in part surrounded with mountains consists of red or reddish color sediments. The chapel has been built in 1518 A.D. This geosite is a good example of connection between geology and culture. The geological landscape around the chapel is very attractive, the rock fall, the graded bedding with its own story, the section with microfossils and finally the pavements full of trace fossils. The stones used to build the church are also sandstone and limestone with plenty of fossils inside.
